Kinki District is climatically divided into three areas. The northern area is characterized by cool summers and snowy winters, the central area by dry winters with low rainfall, and the southern area by heavy rainy summers and warm winters. Naturally the moutainous areas have cooler temperatures. Such climate features reflect on the natural vegetation. Broad-leaved evergreen forest is predominant, especially in the central and southern areas. Beech forest is scattered over the northern and mountain areas. However, most of the areas have now been now changed into the secondary or planted forest.
